Cooper Flagg has officially been named the 2025–26 Rookie of the Year, beating out Charlotte’s Kon Knueppel and Philadelphia’s VJ Edgecombe.
Cooper Flagg
Following the Luka Dončić trade, uncertainty surrounded the future of the Dallas Mavericks. That changed when the franchise selected Cooper Flagg with the No.1 overall pick after his dominant season at Duke. Entering the league, Flagg carried immense expectations, widely viewed as one of the most highly touted prospects in recent history.
He delivered immediately.
Flagg led all rookies in scoring, averaging 21 points per game, while adding 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Beyond the numbers, he showcased advanced game management, poise under pressure, and elite shot-making ability throughout his rookie campaign.
After the Mavericks traded Anthony Davis to Washington at the deadline, the organization fully committed to Flagg as the face of the franchise—at just 19 years old. On April 3rd, he made history, dropping 51 points against the Orlando Magic and becoming the first teenager in NBA history to score 50+ points in a game.
The Dallas Mavericks Focus
Dallas now enters a full rebuild centered around Flagg. Kyrie Irving remains on the roster as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered last season. If Irving stays in Dallas, the Mavericks will have a dynamic backcourt to build around.
This offseason will be critical. Dallas is expected to pursue an additional elite scorer to complement Flagg and Irving, while also utilizing their lottery pick to add another playmaker who can ease the offensive load.
If the Mavericks want to return to playoff contention next season, the path is clear: build around Cooper Flagg and support his rise as one of the league’s next stars.
