From "Diehard" Fan to Viking?

The rumblings across this entire offseason have constantly been about what the Vikings are going to do at the quarterback position. Some recent topics of discussion, though, have been about the potential acquisitions of former Minnesota Vikings fans that could become available in the 2026 offseason.

Arizona Cardinals Kyler Murray

From "Diehard" fan to a Vikings trade target?

We have heard rumblings ranging from Aaron Rodgers to Kirk Cousins, but one that has caught many fans’ eyes is Kyler Murray.

The former superstar and current Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray, is believed to be a likely trade candidate for the Arizona Cardinals. The linkage to the Vikings has mainly come from the fact that Murray has stated he was a diehard Vikings fan growing up. Whether that has any impact on him pushing to be in Minnesota is yet to be seen, but it is definitely a fun topic to talk about.

Kyler, over the last three seasons, has only played in 30 games with 13 wins. This isn't a great sign for a team that is already trying to figure out if they can trust their current starter to stay on the field for all 17 games. Murray still holds an unbelievable skill level as a rushing quarterback and even ranks fifth all-time in completion percentage at 67.1%.

Now we have to discuss if this is even a realistic option for the Vikings. There are a couple ways this could work, and the most practical one is that Kyler Murray gets cut by Arizona and is able to sign for very cheap in Minnesota. The likelihood of this lies in the Cardinals’ hands if they truly want to start over without Kyler or have trouble moving him, which is possible with his cap number.

How "Diehard" is Tyreek Hill after getting cut?

Miami Dolphins superstar WR Tyreek Hill was released yesterday morning in a cap space–freeing frenzy the Dolphins were on. Hill is an 8x Pro Bowler, 5x First-Team All-Pro, 1x Second-Team All-Pro, 1x Super Bowl Champion, and the 2023 receiving yards and touchdown leader. If that wasn't enough accolades for you to at least become interested in the conversation, then I am not sure what will get you there.

Tyreek Hill has said in multiple interviews that he grew up a "diehard" Vikings fan from the Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss era, just like many of us. It was hard not to be a fan of the Vikings back in those days of their electric, star-powered offense. Does this mean he could give a discount to his childhood team?

Hill suffered a very serious injury in 2025 requiring surgery for a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, including the ACL. It is likely that Hill will take some time into the season to return and also not gain as much free-agent interest as he would have if he were currently healthy. With that being said, Tyreek Hill is a phenomenal talent at the wide receiver position and likely would not demand an absurd amount of money.

Now how realistic is it that Hill would come to Minnesota? There are a couple of scenarios where it would make sense and others that don't.

Starting with the most likely scenario of the bunch, there has been buzz about the Vikings potentially wanting to move off former first-round pick WR Jordan Addison as their decision to pick up his fifth-year option approaches. With Addison's off-the-field issues, it isn't totally out of the picture, but it would be a real gamble to trade their young standout receiver after only three seasons to acquire a 31-year-old receiver coming off an injury.

Another situation is if the Vikings were to acquire a veteran quarterback like Kyler Murray, Aaron Rodgers, or dare I say Joe Burrow (highly unlikely). In this case, the Vikings would likely go all out to build a super team–level receiving room to win a Super Bowl with these experienced veterans. And on the topic of money and contracts, it wouldn't be out of the picture to expect Hill to accept a reasonable contract with him still being paid by Miami and maybe even a discount for his childhood team.

Wildcard of the Offseason

In some crazy world very far from here, the Minnesota Vikings are headed into their 2026 season with Kyler Murray, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Tyreek Hill involved in their passing game. This could quite literally have broken the NFL if it were 2020, but in the year 2026, with the cap situation, injury history, and current state of the Minnesota Vikings, it really does not seem likely.

This is a fun scenario to think about with the seasons those two have had in the past, but it seems quite unrealistic. We still believe in J.J. McCarthy here, and bringing in a veteran presence or backup like Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, or Joe Flacco seems like a more accurate decision for the quarterback room.
