It’s been an electric few games for the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are still in the battle for the Western Conference playoff picture. With Anthony Edwards currently missing time with right knee inflammation, the "Twin Turbos" — Bones Hyland and Ayo Dosunmu — have emerged as one of the most exciting and impactful duos on the Wolves roster. Over the last five games, both guards have stepped up, giving the Wolves a jolt of offense, playmaking, and energy that’s been crucial for this team’s momentum.
Bones Hyland: Explosive Scoring & Game Control
Bones Hyland has seen a notable surge in his role on the team lately, and it’s been translating into impressive production for this Minnesota team. During this recent stretch, Hyland has consistently provided a huge scoring punch, pushing the pace and keeping the Wolves' offense humming whenever he’s on the floor.
In the Timberwolves' latest game against the Boston Celtics, which resulted in a 102–92 road win, Bones led the team with 23 points, asserting himself as the focal point of the offense and helping snap Minnesota’s long drought of losses in Boston since 2005.
Over these last five games, Hyland’s aggressiveness in attacking the rim and confidence pulling up from deep have been key, as he’s proven to be one of the Wolves’ most reliable secondary scoring options.
Bones was just averaging 1.3 points per game last season. This season, he's been averaging 8 points per game and has appeared in 63 games so far. Nobody is loving this redemption story more than Bones himself. He truly believes he found his perfect fit with the Wolves, stating, "It feels good to be in Minnesota, everyone loves each other... Phenomenal team."
Ayo Dosunmu: All‑Around Production & Consistency
While Hyland has been the flashier scorer, Ayo Dosunmu has quietly put together one of the most complete runs of basketball we’ve seen from him in a Wolves uniform so far. In the win over Boston, Dosunmu contributed a strong stat line all around with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, anchoring much of Minnesota’s backcourt playmaking and balancing the offensive load.
Across the last five games, Ayo’s versatility has been on display. He's scoring when needed, consistently setting up teammates, and always crashing the boards, which has been especially valuable with Edwards out. His contributions on both sides of the ball have helped steady the Wolves’ second unit and provide consistency.
Twin Turbo’s Combined Impact
The Twin Turbo backcourt of Hyland and Dosunmu has given the Wolves an unexpected boost over the last handful of outings. Both players have been thriving, with Hyland serving as the primary offensive spark and Dosunmu delivering balanced production on both ends of the court.
Looking at their shared minutes, this duo has been dominating opponents, outscoring teams when they’re on the floor and posting impressive offensive and defensive ratings together. Hyland has surged into the low-to-mid teens in scoring over the last five games, while Dosunmu is leading the duo at around 17–18 points per game.
With Edwards sidelined, the Wolves have leaned on this pair not just to fill scoring gaps but to direct tempo, generate easy transition buckets, and provide a contagious spark for this Wolves squad. Their collective motor and chemistry have been a big part of Minnesota’s ability to stay competitive in every quarter.
With Minnesota looking to maintain its playoff seeding and push into the postseason, the emergence of Twin Turbo has given Wolves fans a reason to smile, even on nights without their top star.
